Madhya Pradesh/ Administration bulldozes businessman Jitu Soni’s ‘illegal empire’ in Indore

  • On Thursday morning 12 Pokalens, 300 IMC employees and 250 laborers reached the spot
  • Simultaneous demolition action started on Jitu Soni’s home Jag Villa, hotels My Home, Best Western and O Two
  • 3 more cases, arrest warrants and lookout circulars issued against Jitu

Indore: After the illegal construction was confirmed, simultaneous action was started at Jitu Soni’s house and all the three hotels from 6 am on Thursday. On Thursday morning, the work of breaking the illegal constructions in Jitu Soni’s properties started in the presence of 12 Pokalens, 300 IMC employees, 250 labourers and a heavy police force.

All routes were closed: All routes to reach My Home, O-Two and Best Western Hotel were closed during the operation. Action to break illegal construction is still going on. For the action, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has formed a team of 300 employees, led by four Additional Commissioners.

Earlier on Wednesday, the police had evacuated all hotels belonging to Soni. The guests of the hotel Best Western in Tukoganj were shifted. Police also reached My Home with Jitu’s son Amit Soni and all 67 freed girls in two buses. My Home too was evacuated by late night. The IMC started transporting Poklane, JCB, dumper from Wednesday night to take action against illegal constructions.

Domestic cooking gas cylinders found in hotel: During the operation, a cache of domestic cooking gas cylinders was recovered from Soni’s hotel My Home. Police say that the food department has been informed in this regard, the action will be taken in this matter. In this matter, another case is likely to be registered on Jitu Soni.

Workers brought in tractors: More than 250 laborers were called by the corporation to crackdown at four places simultaneously. These laborers were seated in three tractors. After reaching the spot, the officials told the workers what they had to demolish.

No one came to protest: The atmosphere to break the illegal construction was being created by the police and administration for 4 days. As a result, when the action started on Thursday, no one came forward to oppose it. Anyway, many people related to the case are absconding, some have been arrested, those who are not arrested have gone underground. There was no opposition from any person associated with the Lok Swami newspaper.

Action was taken on 15-year-old notice: A notice was issued by Tehsildar to Jitu Soni, owner of My Home, way back in 2004. This notice was issued in connection with the operation of the hotel without diversion in the residential area. The files were scrutinized by the Nazul department before the action and as soon as this notice was located, a strategy was prepared on the basis of it so that the action of demolishing the construction could not be challenged in the court.

3 hotels and house faced IMC’s hammer: Jitu Soni has a plot of 24,000 square feet. The house Jag Villa is built on 7000 sq ft. Besides, there are 3 hotels My Home, Best Western and O Two. After confirming the illegal construction, the administration had decided to pull it down on Thursday. Three-fourth of the illegal construction of the house is to be demolished. Also, basements, parking and other illegal constructions of three hotels are also being demolished.

Police evacuated hotels: The police evacuated the hotel at midnight of Wednesday-Thursday. Those who were staying at Best Western in Tukoganj were shifted to another place. The corporation has formed a team of 300 people for action.

  • Three-fourth construction to be demolished: According to officials, the corporation allowed construction of the bungalow over 2100 square feet, but 7000 square feet was built. Three-fourth of construction will be demolished.
  • Basement, parkings of hotels are illegal: Basement of all three hotels, parking with additional construction on the ground floor are illegal. All illegal constructions will be demolished.
  • Gold, silver worth Rs 1 lakh found: In My Home on Wednesday night, police opened Jitu’s vault in front of son Amit and found silver coins, jewelery and cash of Rs one lakh.

According to officials, the corporation had allowed construction on 2100 square feet in the bungalow, but 7 thousand square feet was constructed. Three-quarters of the construction is being demolished in action. Police reached Soni’s Alok Nagar bungalow at 5.30 am on Thursday. The electricity department team was also with them. Poklen and JCB began to break the bungalow from both ends. Both parts were broken except for the middle of the bungalow.

Hearing in high court today on illegal construction of Hotel Best Western: The corporation’s notice regarding illegal construction at Hotel Best Western in South Tukoganj is to be heard in the High Court on Thursday. On Wednesday, the hotel management filed an application in the court regarding the notice, and in just three hours the corporation submitted its reply. The corporation has also presented photographs along with it, stating that large scale illegal construction has been done on every floor including a pub in one basement, a cafeteria in the other.

Police raid Dewas and Ujjain for Jitu’s arrest: SSP Ruchivardhan Mishra said that the arrest warrant of the absconding accused Jitu Soni was issued on Wednesday in the I-T Act case filed in the MIG police station. In search of him, police raided his possible hideouts in Dewas, Ujjain and some other cities. A letter has been written to the IMC officials to get information about Soni’s legitimate and illegal assets. The office at My Home is sealed. More than 100 files and documents have also been found here. They are being examined.
