Lalji Tandon appointed Madhya Pradesh Governor, Anandiben Patel made UP Governor

In a major rejig, Anandiben Patel replaced Ram Naik as new Uttar Pradesh Governor. Earlier, she was the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

A statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan also made the announcement about the Governors of other states. Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal. Ramesh Bais has been appointed as the Governor of Tripura.

Lal Ji Tandon, who is at present the Governor of Bihar, has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, the statement said. Tandon replaces Anandiben who has now got the charge of Uttar Pradesh. Phagu Chauhan has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar. RN Ravi has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.

“The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan statement added.

Anandiben Patel was made the Governor of Madhya Pradesh in January 2018 last year. She replaced Om Prakash Kohli, who had an additional charge of the office of MP Governor along with the office of Gujarat Governor. Laster in August, she also got additional charge of Chhattisgarh following the death of Balramji Dass Tandon, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said.

Patel is known as a ‘protégé’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She had succeeded Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister after the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

In 2016, she stepped down from the post of Chief Minister on the ground that she was completing 75 years so decided to step down in keeping with the party’s rule. She was the second BJP leader from Gujarat, who was appointed as Governor after Vajubhai Vala, who is the current Governor of Karnataka.
