Kejriwal’s nephew arrested in PWD Scam; AAP says Modi govt stooping low

New Delhi: More trouble is brewing for ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Vinay Bansal, the son of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s deceased brother-in-law, Surendra Kumar Bansal, in connection with the Public Works Department scam.

Bansal was a partner in his father’s company Renu Construction, which was involved in the alleged scam. He was arrested from his residence in Pitampura.

According to three FIRs registered by the ACB against Kejriwal and others on May 8, 2017, the Delhi Government’s PWD committed illegitimate favoritism in awarding a tender to Surendra Kumar Bansal’s Renu Construction for road and sewer construction projects.

The FIRs were registered on the basis of a complaint filed by founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO) Rahul Sharma on January 9, alleging irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines in Delhi in 2015-16.

Rahul Sharma in his complaint alleged that the tender was awarded at 46 % lower than the estimated cost ₹4,90,000. It was also alleged that the product quality was inferior.

The Delhi Police stated that the arrest was made based upon the unsatisfactory answers of the accused during the questioning, regarding Mahadev Company from whom the company claimed to have bought the raw materials.

In the course of the investigation, Mahadev Company was found to be non-existent.

However, the Delhi Government alleged political vendetta behind the arrest, claiming that the construction work undertaken by Bansal’s firm was given a clean chit by Sriram Labs, which was directed by the ACB to do the inspection.

It also claimed that a third party certification of the construction was done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee.

While Talking about the arrest, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari said that for almost a year under the pressure of Kejriwal Government the ACB sat upon the matter but ultimately the law had to take its course and today Arvind Kejriwal’s Scamster Relative Vinay Bansal stands arrested.

He added that after the arrest of his nephew Vinay Bansal in PWD Scam, the CM Arvind Kejriwal has lost all moral right to rule and if he has any morality left then he should quit.

Meanwhile, a Senior AAP official suggested that this is a political move by saying that it is an evident use of ACB to malign the name of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“After having failed to find anything against Kejriwal, his MLAs, and his ministers, Modi govt stoops low to target Kejriwal’s relatives. Modi govt has got Arvind Kejriwal investigated by all agencies. They got Kejriwal raided by CBI and Delhi police but did not get any evidence of any wrongdoing. Now, Modi govt has turned its attention to Kejriwal’s relatives,” said official.

Rebel AAP leader Kapil Mishra also attacked Kejriwal by saying that he had already talked about this case at Rajghat on 7th May 2017. He added that the PWD was clearing fake bills for Kejriwal’s brother-in-law and nephew through AAP leader Satyendra Jain.
