New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday approved the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana and rejected all objections raised by Lt Governor’s office. The Chief Minister took the decision in exercise of powers given to the Delhi government by the Supreme Court ruling on July 4.
The Delhi cabinet on January 8, this year, had approved the Revenue Department proposal to begin the scheme titled Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana, but it could not be implemented due to some objections raised by the office of the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
What is the scheme:
The Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana will enable 1100 senior citizens from each constituency of Delhi per year to undertake free pilgrimage, the expenses for which will be borne by the Delhi government. It is proposed that a total of 77,000 pilgrims will be able to avail this facility every year.
Travel will be in A/C buses through coach tours of DTTDC wherein expenses for boarding, lodging and food along with pilgrimage will be paid for by the government.
There is no income criterion, but preference will be given to those from economically weaker sections on the first-come-first-serve basis.
Duration and Route Map:
The pilgrimage duration will be of three days and two nights.
a) Delhi-Mathura-Vrindavan-Agra-Fatehpur Sikri-Delhi
d) Delhi-Amritsar-Bagha Border-Anandpur Sahib-Delhi
e) Delhi-Vaishno Devi-Jammu-Delhi
Eligibility for the Scheme :
i) Any resident of Delhi above 60 years of age will be eligible for the scheme
ii) Those selected, will be allowed to be accompanied by an attendant above 18 years of age, whose expenditure will also be borne by the government.
iii) The applicant should not be an employee of central/state/local government or autonomous bodies.
iv) The applicant will have to give a self-certificate that all information being given by them is correct and they have not availed the scheme in the past.
v) Those selected for pilgrimage will be covered with an insurance of Rs one lakh each.
Procedure for application :
All application forms will be available online and shall be filed either through Office of Divisional Commissioner or office of respective MLA or office of Tirth Yatra Committee.
The selection of pilgrims will be done by drawing lots and the respective MLA will have to certify that the applicants are residents of Delhi. All other modalities will be specified in the final notification.
