Mumbai: Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor made her debut this year with Dhadak, which was remake of superhit Marathi film Sairat. The film also starred Ishaan Khattar and was directed by Shashank Khaitan. Although the film received average response, it went on to earn more than Rs 100 crore at box office.
Incidentally, the second much talked debut of year is of Sara Ali Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter, in Kedarnath. The film has been in news for various reasons. Under Abhishek Kapoor’s direction Sara received positive feedback for her performance, although the film did not manage to garner good reviews.
“Both Sara and Janhvi made their debut in the industry in the same year and are being compared, but it looks like people close to Janhvi are a bit concerned about her career. Some of them tried to write off Sara even before the film’s first day collection was disclosed and started sending out messages on how Janhvi has scored over Sara by getting bigger opening day collection,” says a source.
Dhadak had collected around Rs 8 crore on the first day while Kedharnath collected Rs 7 crore. Kedarnath has managed to earn Rs 32 crore in four days and will have an advantage of no release this week. The next big release of the month is Zero which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.
Meanwhile, Janhvi was launched by Karan Johar who is also working with Sara in Simmba. Janhvi is working with him once again in Takht and pilot Gunjan Saxena’s biopic. Sara’s second film Simmba is about to release by the end of this month and she is expected to star in Imtiaz Ali’s next with Kartik Aryan.
