It’s Diwali in Jharkhand coal belt: CCL pays Rs 101 crore as bonus

Rajrappa (Jharkhand): The Central Coal Fields Limited credited Rs 101 crore to the accounts of its employees as Durga Puja bonus on Thursday. Each of the 18,000-plus employees have been paid Rs 60,500 as bonus. The decision was taken at the meeting of the Standardisation Committee of Coal India Limited on September 5 at New Delhi.

The bonus amount is more than the monthly salaries of most of the employees.

Senior Financial Manager SK Gupta said, “The amount has been transferred into the accounts of the employees. They can withdraw it from Friday onward.”

Mobiles, TV sets on wish list

The coal workers are elated with the huge jump in their bonus. Some of them are planning to buy TV sets while others have set their eyes on costly mobiles. “It is Diwali for us,” one of them said.

The shopkeepers and traders in the entire coal belt are also very happy. They hope that the entire bonus amount will be spent by most of the employees, giving a big boost to the economy of the area.

Jharkhand has the largest coal reserves in the country.
