It felt like I was talking to Hawaldar Ishar Singh, instead of Akshay: ‘Kesari’ actor Rakesh Chaturvedi Om

Mumbai: Rakesh Chaturvedi Om who was last seen acting in Padman, will now be seen in Kesari as the main antagonist.

Talking about his role Rakesh shared, “I am playing an Afghani antagonist in Kesari opposite Akshay Kumar sir. My character gives a very tough time to Hawaldar Ishar Singh (Akshay Kumar) through out the film.”

Talking about bagging this role he said, “I have been doing theatre very regularly with Naseeruddin Shah, and his theatre group Motley, so director Anurag Singh and casting director Jogi have seen a couple of my performances on stage with Mr Shah. And one fine day I got a call from Dharma’s office for a screen test. After 6-7 tests, Anurag sir finalised me for this very important character in Kesari.”

Praising lead actor of Kesari, Akshay Kumar, he further added, “The most remarkable thing is that I have already worked with Akshay Kumar sir in Padman so there was a given comfort zone between us. Akshay sir was so truthful and in the skin of his character that I always felt I am really having conversation with Hawaldar Ishar Singh instead of Akshay Kumar in each and every scene. This helped me react appropriately. And because of my theatre background, the director gave me an opportunity to conduct an intense acting workshop for a month with the cast, the experience of which will always remain in my heart.”

Rakesh is a National school of Drama (NSD) pass out and has been involved in theatre with Naseeruddin Shah for the past 15 years. Having done films like Padman, Parzania, Graveyardshift, Path, Adrishya, Kesari and Dhoort.  he has also acted in a TV shows like Khel, Kadam, kagaar, CID, Sara Aakash among others.

Apart from acting he has also written and directed two full length Hindi feature films — Bolo Raam (2009) and BHK Bhalla@Halla.Kom (2016).
