New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday allowed four-day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody of Congress leader P Chidambaram in the INX Media case.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar asked the agency to conduct a medical examination of Chidambaram as per the rules.
The court also allowed the family members and lawyers of Chidambaram to meet him for half an hour every day during the CBI custody.
“Considering the facts and circumstances, I am of the view that police custody is justified,” the judge said and remanded him to CBI’s custody till August 26.
Justice Banumathi will hear Chidambaram’s plea in SC
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday sent Chidambaram’s plea challenging the Delhi high court verdict dismissing his anticipatory bail plea in INX Media case for hearing before a bench headed by Justice R Banumathi.
Chidambaram, who was arrested by the CBI on Wednesday in the case, has approached the apex court against the high court’s August 20 verdict.
The Congress leader was arrested after he failed to get protection from the Supreme Court which on Wednesday decided to hear on Friday his petition seeking a stay of the high court order.
His plea would come up for hearing before a bench comprising Justices R Banumathi and A S Bopanna.
