India vs SA 1st Test: Rain forces early stumps on Day 1, India 202/0

Vizag: Rohit Sharma slammed his maiden ton as Test opener as India continued their dominance over South Africa in the second session on Day 1 of the first Test in Vizag. Riding on Rohit’s fourth Test century, India went to tea at 202 without any loss.

Resuming on 91/0 post lunch, both Rohit and Mayank showed aggressive intent in the second session, taking on the South African bowlers, espicially spinners. Rohit, in particular, looked unstoppable as he took his sixes count to 5 during his unbeaten 115-run knock. Mayank (84*) too got past his previous highest score (77) in Test cricket. Bad light and overcast weather forced umpires to take tea break before the scheduled time.

The day was officially called off once it became clear that the bad light will not allow any resumption of play. The proceedings on Day 1 come to an end on an unfortunate note.

India end Day 1 at 202/0
Rohit Sharma 115*
Mayank Agarwal 84*
