IND vs WI 1st T20I: All eyes on Rohit Sharma in abscence of Kohli, Dhoni

With Kohli rested for the three matches, Rohit Sharma will lead the side against the reigning T20 champions.

New Delhi: Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma arrived in Kolkata on Friday morning for the T20 match against West Indies at Eden Gardens on Sunday.

The two teams will look horns in three matches of T20Is series. The second match will be played in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow at Ekana International Cricket Stadium, on November 6 while the third match will be played at Chidambaram, Chennai on November 11.

In the upcoming T20Is, Indian team will play under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma sans MS Dhoni. On October 26, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee led by MSK Prasad announced India’s T20I squads for the upcoming series against West Indies and Australia, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s name was missing, a move which was criticised by Dhoni’s fans.

With Kohli rested for the three matches, Rohit Sharma will lead the side against the reigning T20 champions.

In Kohli’s absence, in recent times, Sharma has been given the responsibility to lead the side and has done well in the limited chances he has gotten as a captain. He wants to do well in the upcoming series too and doesn’t want to take Windies lightly in T20s.

According to Rohit Sharma, the absence of MS Dhoni is an opportunity for young cricket players like Rishabh Pant to make their mark.

Ahead of their first T-20 match of the 3 match series against West Indies tomorrow, team India held a practice session in Kolkata’s Eden Garden.

India has played eight T20Is against West Indies, out of which only two matches have been won by them.

Since 2017, India has played 26 T20Is matches, winning 19 matches out of it with a success rate of 73%.
