Bhopal: Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal, on Friday expressed regret over her statement on Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief late Hemant Karkare. She said that it is better for her to retract her statement as it is strengthening her rivals.
Earlier Sadhvi Pragya said that Hemant Karkare died because of his karma.
She had said: “Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me in Malegaon blasts and treated me very badly. I told him your entire dynasty will be erased. He died of his karma.”
Later, Sadhvi Pragya withdrew her statement on Hemant Karkare and apologised for her comments.
Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Bhopal candidate on Wednesday. Since then, her candidature has raised concerns nationwide.
From Mehbooba Mufti to Asaduddin Owaisi, many national leaders came out to criticise the BJP and Sadhvi Pragya, who is out on bail.
Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, on Friday said that former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, who died in action during the Mumbai terror attacks, had treated her “very badly”.
Sadhvi Pragya said, “If my statement is giving strength to our rivals, I am taking back my words on Hemant Karkare.”
After Sadhvi Pragya made the statement against Hemant Karkare, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise for Thakur’s remarks and take action against her for terming Karkare an “anti-national” and alleging that the officer had tortured her.
BJP has distanced itself from remarks made by Pragya against late Hemant Karkare. The party said in a statement that BJP considers him a martyr. This is Sadhvi Pragya’s personal statement which she might have given because of the mental and physical torture she had faced.
