‘Veere Di Wedding’ is a mad film: Jasleen Royal

New Delhi: Singer and composer Jasleen Royal has sung for ‘Veere Di Wedding’, her second venture with Sonam Kapoor after ‘Khoobsurat’.

Talking about ‘Veere Di Wedding’, the 26-year-old said, “I think it’s a mad film, and it’s going to be fun. Having spent a lot of time with Sonam and her sister, Rhea, during ‘Khoobsurat’, I trust them to come up with a crazy film. I adore Sonam. Rhea is a great producer and a visionary.”

“The cuss words are part of the script and the script is part of the characters; if the characters are abusive then it’s fine… A lot of people abuse in day-to-day life. Even soft-spoken or shy persons can have a moment of rage when they spit out a few cuss words,” she said about controversy over use of abusive language in the trailer.

Veere Di Wedding’s ‘Laaj Sharam’ has been written by White Noise, an A&R (artistes and repertoire) venture of composers Sachin-Jigar, and sung by Jasleen and Divya Kumar.

“’Laaj Sharam’ is very different from what I had done so far. I have worked with Sachin-Jigar before this in ‘Badlapur’. When I was working with Yash Raj Studio on ‘Hichki’, they were working on ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’. Around that time we used to meet and they encouraged me a lot… eventually we shared a really nice rapport, and I got called for the song,” said Jasleen.

Talking about how she decides on choosing to sing for a film, the singer-song-writer said, “Whenever I am contacted for a song, the first thing I check is whether I can do justice to the song. But when I am composing for a film, I need to brainstorm with the producers and directors. I have worked with dream houses like Yash Raj Films (YRF), Dharma, Excel, so I never really had to decide whether to work with them.”

Growing up as an introvert and shy child, Jasleen had always been drawn towards music. “I always felt a little lost about what to do, but that helped me experiment, so I started singing and later song-writing, and then putting them out on YouTube,” said the singer.

Jasleen has already sung and composed for several Bollywood films. The latest feather added to her cap is a song for Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’.

“I have composed and sung for ‘Gully Boy’. Zoya Akhtar was very clear about what she wanted. The song has a personal expression to it… ” said the singer. “Since the film has a lot of time before it’s release I can’t reveal the name of the song, Zoya will kill me!” laughed Jasleen.

She is also composing for upcoming films ‘Gulab Jamun’ and ‘Pal Pal Dil K Pass’.
