I feel very responsible: Karan Johar apologises on Pandya-Rahul row

New Delhi: Earlier this month, Hardik Pandya, whose remarks on Koffee with Karan were criticised as sexist, apologised for on Twitter saying that he got “carried away by the nature” of the show.

On the show, Pandya boasted about hooking up with multiple women and also mentioned how open he has been about it with his parents. He also enacted out how his family was proud when he pointed out several women at a party he has had relationships/hook-ups with.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul (also present in the show with Pandya) were eventually suspended pending an inquiry by Committee of Administrators (CoA) for outrage-evoking comments on women during a TV show. The two were also omitted from playing the India vs Australia ODI series in Australia.

I apologise: Karan Johar

After remaining silent for over two weeks, Karan Johar, host of the show, apologised. “I’m not justifying the conversation that happened on the episode. I’m saying that perhaps things were said that may have crossed boundaries and I apologise because it was my platform where it happened,” Karan was quoted as saying by ET Now.

‘Just wondering about how I can undo this damage’

He says the cricketers have paid the price for what happened. “I haven’t spoken about it really… I feel very responsible because it was my show and my platform. I invited them as guests and so the ramifications and repercussions of the show are my responsibility. I have had so many sleepless nights, just wondering about how I can undo this damage. Who is going to listen to me? It has now gone into a zone that is beyond my control,” the filmmaker told the news channel.

The Koffee With Karan episode featuring Pandya and Rahul had been taken down by Hotstar after it attracted widespread criticism for Pandya’s misogynistic and sexist comments.
