Bhopal: Riyazuddin Deshmukh, who was a junior of slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare in Mumbai Police, has filed nomination as an independent candidate against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat.
Riyazuddin said he is very hurt by the controversial statement given by Sadhvi Pragya about martyr Hemant Karkare. He decided to contest against Pragya because of her unacceptable remark against Karkare.
Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, had said that former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, who died in action during the Mumbai terror attacks, had tortured and abused her in jail.
She also said that she had cursed Hemant Karkare and he died because of his karma.
“Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me in Malegaon blasts and treated me very badly. I told him your entire dynasty will be erased. He died of his karma,” Sadhvi Pragya had said.
However, Sadhvi later apologized for her statement following protests.
