[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter actress Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar and Vivek Agnihotri of harassing her on the sets of two different films, the film fraternity has come out in support of her.
Tanushree Dutta has accused Patekar of sexual misconduct on the sets of the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. Apparently, Nana’s unwanted advances during the shoot of a special number for the film made Tanushree so uncomfortable that she had to opt out. She was soon replaced by Rakhee Sawant.
On Thursday, in another interview, Dutta accused filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri for harassing her on the sets of Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets. She said Agnihotri wanted her to strip on the sets to give cues to an actor (Irrfan Khan) for a dance. “Yeah of course, there are good people in the industry. Both, Irrfan Khan and Suniel Shetty spoke up. Suniel scolded that guy (Agnihotri),” Dutta revealed.
Although Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan steered clear from the controversy, Priyanka Chopra, Swara Bhasker, Twinkle Khanna, among others, have come out in support of her.
Actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna, whose husband Akshay Kumar was criticised by Dutta for making films with Patekar despite allegedly knowing of her accusations against him, tweeted, “A working environment without harassment and intimidation is a fundamental right and by speaking up this brave woman helps pave the way towards that very goal for all of us.” She linked the tweet to a thread of posts shared by journalist Janice Sequeira, who says she was on set the day of the alleged harassment. Sequeira corroborated a large part of what Tanushree Dutta said happened.
Actress Sonam Kapoor, whose actor father Anil Kapoor has worked with Nana Patekar in Welcome and Welcome Back, also backed Tanushree and Janice and tweeted: “I believe #TanushreeDatta… It’s upto us to stand together.”
Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, Sandhya Mridul, Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap have also added their voices in support.
