GST theft to the tune of Rs 11.62 crore detected in IPL tournament matches

Jaipur: State Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (SDRI) has detected GST theft of Rs 11.62 crore on sale of tickets of IPL matches. Royal Multi Sports Pvt Ltd.’s franchise company Rajasthan Royals had organised as many as seven matches from April 11 to May 19, 2018.

The investigation revealed that the tickets were mainly sold through the online portal BookMyShow. Besides distribution of 65,207 complimentary tickets was also done. The price of these tickets for different categories was between Rs 500 and Rs 15000.

The scrutiny of the documents submitted by Royal Multi Sports Pvt Ltd revealed theft of GST of Rs 11.62 crore. No GST was deposited on complimentary tickets although it was applicable at the rate of 28%. The company is registered under the GST Act in Mumbai, while all the matches were held in Jaipur. According to the GST rules, registration in Rajasthan was mandatory but the company did not complete registration process.
