[dropcap]E[/dropcap]arly on Sunday morning, four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police said that a joint team of Army and police launched a cordon and search operation in Kaparan village around 1 am. While searching, the forces were fired upon which triggered retaliation turning into an encounter that got four militants killed.
An Army spokesman confirmed the killing of four militants and said operation is underway as there is possibility of more militants in the area. Mobile internet services have been suspended in the district as a precautionary measure.
This is the third operation against militants in south Kashmir since Wednesday. 14 local militants have been killed in three encounters so far.
On Friday, six terrorists were shot dead in a fierce encounter in Anantnag district, including three top commanders of militant groups. Security forces had launched a predawn operation based on inputs about the presence of terrorists in Sekipora village in Bijbehara, around 50 kms from Srinagar.
On Wednesday, four militants were killed in Shopian district in an encounter where a soldier also died, and three were injured.
