‘Fanney Khan’ makers changes lyrics of ‘Acche Din’ song to avoid controversy

New Delhi: The makers of Fanney Khan seem to have come under tremendous pressure to change a song from the film to avoid controversy. The musical stars Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles, and has a song called ‘Mere Achche Din Kab Aayenge’.

This phrase had been in use through memes, and jokes on social media platforms ever since the Narendra Modi-led government took charge. PM Modi had used the phrase ‘achche din’ frequently during political campaigns, and now a musical twist to the words is seen in the rendition of Fanney Khan song to attack the government.

Modi critics used the song to attack the present government. This led to the makers of Fanney Khan to hastily release a mood-uplifting track ‘Mere Acche Din Hai Aye Re’, to avoid their film landing in any kind of controversy. The original song was a rather sad track that was supposed to convey things in the life of a taxi driver.

A source told a newspaper, “After the first version came out, a lot of people online used it to attack the Central Government and question Modi on his promise of achche din. The song was getting politicised needlessly. The producers also got a few calls from high places, after which they decided to release the new version. They are even contemplating pulling down the original song.”

However, the makers of Fanney Khan, said that the second track was always part of the film. Director Atul Manjrekar said, “We cut a new video and released it now because our song was unnecessarily taking a political colour. It didn’t strike us that this is also the slogan of the government. We didn’t expect such a reaction. Fanney Khan is a simple film about a cab driver and his dreams. I hope people see the song in the right context and not misconstrue it.”

Fanney Khan is going to release on August 3, 2018.
