Down 12-19, PV Sindhu fights back to reach World Championships final

Nanjing (China): Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-16, 24-22 in 54 minutes on Saturday to enter the final of the World Championships for the second consecutive year.

In the final on Sunday, Sindhu will face her nemesis, Spain’s Carolina Marin, who defeated her in the Rio Olympic final two years ago. Sindhu had finished runners-up at the Glasgow edition last year.

Sindhu scripted an incredible recovery from 12-19 down in the second game, reeling off eight straight points to grab one match point.

Drama on Sindhu’s 2nd match point

Sindhu’s second match point saw the longest rally of the contest, comprising 41 shots, which ended with Sindhu hitting wide. However, Yamaguchi hit wide again to gift Sindhu her third and final match point.
