[dropcap]D[/dropcap]irected by S Shankar, the first full-length trailer for 2.0, which is touted to be the most expensive Indian project ever, is here. The film is the sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot), which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan alongside Rajinikanth.
The over two-minute long gripping trailer is replete with heavy usage of VFX. The film, which also marks Akshay’s Tamil debut, sees him in the role of an antagonist, Dr Richard/Crowman. While Rajini will reprise his role of Dr Vaseegaran/Chitti from the original. It shows Chitti’s face-off with Akshay’s cellphone-hating mutant scientist. Akshay’s character is determined to kill every person on the earth who uses a mobile phone. Soon, the evil scientist comes face to face with Chitti, version 2.0, and a huge battle takes place.
“2.0 is the first film in India to have 4D sound technology. Resul Pookutty and his team have put in their best efforts,” said Shankar.
Resul Pookutty on the other hand termed the film as India’s gift to global cinema in the form of 4D sound. “The stalwarts of Indian cinema including Akshay Kumar, Rajinikanth, and others are witnessing a historical moment,” he said.
At $75 million, 2.0 is more expensive than several successful Hollywood VFX classics. The film also features Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey and Amy Jackson in key roles. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.
“It took 150 days to compose the background score of #2point0. It was like working in eight films at once to work on 2.0,” said Rehman.
Talking about the film, Akshay said, “It’s been so many challenges. Director Shankar is scientist. It took three & half hour to do make up everyday. I have never put so much effort for make up in my entire life.”
Kamal hasan too congratulated the cast and crew of the Rajnikanth-starrer film.
Rajnikanth said, “Take my words, 2.0 will be a super hit. I’d like to congratulate producer Subhaskaran and director Shankar. Subhaskaran invested Rs 600 cr trusting only director Shankar.”
Chitti and Dr Richard’s face-off is something you will not want to miss in the trailer. We also get a glimpse of Amy Jackson, who is apparently playing the role of a robot.
