Did Karan Johar advise Janhvi against doing Hindi remake of ‘Arjun Reddy’?

After Arjun Kapoor opted out of Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy, sources suggest Karan Johar advised Janhvi Kapoor against doing the film as the role of female lead is limited.

“The film is about a male character, so when Janhvi was approached for the role, her mentor Karan Johar was not in favour of her signing it. He suggested Tara Sutaria’s name for the film but since Tara’s debut film Student of The Year 2 was pushed ahead, she had to opt out of it. Finally, the makers went to Kiara Advani and she agreed to come on board.” Shahid Kapoor is playing the male lead in the film.

Kiara too has worked with Karan and it is said that the director recommended her name for the film.

In the original film, Arjun Reddy falls in love with a girl who is studying in his college but after she is forced to marry someone else, he surrenders himself to alcohol and drugs. His friends try to set him up with another girl but it doesn’t work out. So the film will have two actresses but according to the original script, both the roles are limited.
