On Saturday the AAP tweeted the images of an illuminated bridge claiming them to be pictures of the Signature Bridge. The AAP’s official Twitter handle wrote, “Delhi ! Here is your pride ..The Signature Bridge . Ready to welcome you tomorrow for Inauguration Ceremony.. 4PM onwards.. Sunday, 4th Nov.”- @msisodia”
It was pointed out by Twitter users that the pictures were not of the bridge in Delhi but those of the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam. Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga replied on AAP’s tweet by giving the link of the video of the Erasmus Bridge.
Rebel Aam Aadmi Party leader Kapil Mishra claimed in a video that the 98% work of the bridge got completed during his tenure and deputy CM Manish Sisodia managed to carry out only 2% work. He also claimed that the state government had not carried out a trial of the bridge before inaugurating it on Sunday.
The Signature Bridge is touted to be India’s first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge. It is believed that the bridge will provide a huge boost to the economy of the area as it will draw tourists from across the country and abroad.
BJP chief and AAP workers clash at inauguration
A video by ANI showed a scuffle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari and his supporters and AAP workers.
“In my constituency (North East Delhi), I re-started construction of the bridge after it was stalled for many years and now Arvind Kejriwal is organising an inauguration ceremony,” Manoj Tiwari told ANI.
“I was invited to the inauguration event. I am MP from here. So what’s the problem? Am I a criminal? Why has the police surrounded me? I’m here to welcome him (Kejriwal). AAP and police have misbehaved with me,” he added. Around 30 BJP workers have begun a dharna at the site.
CM Kejriwal tweeted accusing BJP for the chaos, “Unprecedented. Chaos by BJP at Signature Bridge inauguration site. Its a Del govt prog. Police mute spectator. Can LG, being head of Del police, ensure peace and order at Signature bridge inauguration site?”
