Deepika and Priyanka to team up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hira Mandi’?

While Gangubai was known for running brothels and other illegal activities, she was also well known for working in favour of sex workers and championing for their rights.

Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali has already immersed himself in his next big project – Hira Mandi. The film will explore the life of Gangubai Kothewali popularly called the Madam of Kamathipura.

Gangubai was known for running several brothels in Kamathipura. Sources in the know suggest that Sanjay Bhansali has roped in his favourites Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra as the two leading actresses.

“There will be two parallel female leads in the film. And Bhansali couldn’t think of anyone other than Deepika and Priyanka to essay these roles. He has spoken to both of them and both the actresses have agreed in principle to be part of his film. For the moment, Bhansali is busy scripting the film. It has not been decided yet as to who will play the iconic character of Gangubai in the film. He has told both the actresses that he would need bulk dates from them to finish filming the movie,” says a source.

Needless to say, the movie will depict larger than life sets and portray Hira Mandi in its full glory like never before. The movie will be high on romance, song and dance numbers as well.

While Gangubai was known for running brothels and other illegal activities, she was also well known for working in favour of sex workers and championing for their rights. She is also said to have met the then PM Jawahar Lal Nehru to discuss the problems of sex workers. Hira Mandi is a tourist attraction today and Gangubai is an idol worshipped by many.
