Coronavirus outbreak/ Improvement in condition of 2 Kerala students; 1500 deaths so far; 3 deaths outside China; over 63,000 cases reported

New Delhi/Beijing: So far, 1491 people have died of coronavirus in China, while infection has been confirmed in 63,837 people. The largest number of cases outside China have been reported in Singapore (58).

About 100 Indians still stranded in Hubei: The condition of 2 out of 3 persons infected in Kerala is improving. 80-100 Indians are still feared to be stranded in the worst affected Hubei. 2 out of 160 Indians on a cruise in Japan are also infected.

Medical students test negative: Health officials in Kerala said on Thursday – Out of 3 people infected in Kerala, the condition of two medical students has improved. Their report was later investigated, which is negative. After this Alappuzha Medical Student was discharged from the hospital. Earlier, another medical student’s report in Thrissur was also negative.

Kerala Health Minister KK Selja said – The girl student was discharged from the hospital only after seeing the sample report. Her condition is now satisfactory. He will now be monitored at home.

2397 being monitored in Kerala: Selja said- 2397 persons are being monitored in Kerala. There are 2375 persons being monitored in their homes and 22 in hospitals. Samples of 402 people have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) for investigation. Of these, 363 reports have come negative. The rest of the reports are awaited.

According to health officials – 122 people are being monitored in homes have also been discharged. Earlier, 1040 persons were excluded from monitored. But the health department remains cautious. Travelers coming from China have been advised not to go to public places for 28 days.

25 countries have confirmed cases: At least 25 countries have confirmed cases and several nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei. Three deaths have been recorded outside mainland China – one in Hong Kong one in the Philippines, and the most recent in Japan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the virus poses a “grave threat” to the world, with chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saying the virus could have “more powerful consequences than any terrorist action”.

Vietnam orders lockdown: Meanwhile, Vietnam has ordered a lockdown on a community of 10,000 residents northwest of the capital Hanoi, becoming the first location outside of China to have ordered a quarantine for at least 20 days.

800 Pakistani students stranded in Wuhan: More than 800 Pakistani students are stranded in Wuhan city. They have appealed to the government to evacuate them. The students said that they are undergoing mental torture. Rehan Rashid, who has been studying medicine in Wuhan since 2015, criticized the government of Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying that the government of Pakistan refused to evacuate students after the city was locked down.

Pakistani students said- here is a scary situation: Talking on the phone from China, student Rashid said – We are neither being evicted nor being helped by Chinese authorities. We are all very scared. This is a scary situation. We have been in the hostel room for over 20 days. Not being allowed to go out for food or other essential things. Even before India evacuated its people from Wuhan, the students of Pakistan had released a video and asked the government to evacuate us.

However, Officials of the Government of Pakistan have appealed to the students to maintain peace. Parents and relatives of Pakistani students are also staging demonstrations in Islamabad demanding their children be removed from there.
