Mumbai: A-lister film stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are earning more through television than through film. As reality shows are the darling of small screen audience, remuneration of those involved in them are very high.
This year, Salman’s movie Race 3 earned around Rs 60 crore. However, he has collected about Rs 430 crore from just two TV shows, which is over seven times more than his income from films.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan said that the big stars find television more lucrative, “Channels are using them for brand promotions and channel promotions besides hosting the shows.”
TV stars earning more than film stars: Salman
Atul says that there are more sponsors of shows on TV. Whereas in the movies, stars get money only for shooting and promotion. Recently, Salman Khan conceded that many TV stars are earning more than film stars. He had said that at present, TV actors have 3-4 flats in Mumbai leading a luxurious life.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta says, “Content is the king. That is why big stars have no problem in doing shows with good and interesting content. They get good exposure on television. Also, channels have no scruples in betting on them.”
SRK will earn Rs 45 crore from chat show
Shah Rukh Khan may also earn more through TV shows this year than through movies. He is going to make a comeback to his chat show – Ted Talks India – Nayi Soch. For a series of 16 episodes, he will earn about Rs 45 crore. During the last season of his chat show, he got Rs 30 crore. The actor charges Rs 30-35 crore for a film.
60 episodes of KBC will fetch Big B Rs 180 crore!
Big B is currently hosting the 10th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) and is charging Rs 3 crore for each episode. While, last year he had charged Rs 2 crore. For 60 episodes of KBC, he will get Rs 180 crore. The megastar charges Rs 10 crore for a lead role in a film and Rs 2-3 crore for a cameo role.
Big Boss, Dus ka Dum money-spinner for Salman
Salman charges Rs 14 crore of each episode of Big Boss season 12. He had charged Rs 90 crore for season-3 of Dus ka Dum. Salman charges about Rs 60 crore for a film.
