‘Casual sexism isn’t cool’, singer slams trolls for #10YearChallenge meme on Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra has been facing a lot of criticism ever since she married Nick Jonas in December last year. First, there was a very derogatory article written by Mariah Smith for The Cut. In her article, Mariah slammed the actress and accused her of “defrauding” Nick Jonas into a “fraudulent” relationship. The piece that aimed to criticise the actress’ rich-person lifestyle, and which was later deleted receiving mass disapproval, was labelled as a racist, offensive, and a vile personal attack from the writer, by people across the globe.

Now, many have targeted the actress through the ongoing #10YearChallenge on social media. The 10-year age difference between the Priyanka and Nick has seen a lot of memes on the internet before as well.

Pointing it out, Indian playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada has called the trolls out for the casual sexism in the meme. Popular for her songs in films like Sairat and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Chinmayi questioned Twitterati about the meme and asked if none of them have seen how mean it is.

She pointed out how India is a country where men can marry women 25 years younger than them and nobody raises an eyebrow. However, when a woman marries someone 10 years younger than her she ends up being fodder for memes.

The singer tweeted the meme and wrote, “Anyone see how mean this meme is? This is a country where men marry women 25 years their junior, elsewhere in the world 60 year olds marry children and no one bats an eyelid. A woman marries someone younger and it is a meme in a 10 year challenge. Casual sexism ain’t cool.”

Priyanka, like always, is cool as a cucumber, and is busy with events in her personal and work life. The Quantico star made an announcement on Instagram about her upcoming original Youtube show If I Could Ask You One Thing. Her first guest on the show will be American gymnast Simone Biles, who has always inspired her with her resilience.

Priyanka will be next seen on the silver screen in her third Hollywood outing Isn’t It Romantic co-starring Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth and Adam DeVine, which releases on February 13. She will also be seen opposite Farhan Akhtar in Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink which co-stars Zaira Wasim.
