‘Can’t come before October,’ call centre tells Delhi resident seeking caste certificate

New Delhi: The Delhi Government’s much-touted Doorstep Delivery of Government Services scheme is faltering due to staff crunch. This, despite the government channelising more resources into the scheme.

People seeking various services are being asked to wait for weeks. Sultanpuri resident Amit Kumar dialled the door step delivery call centre number 1076 on Monday. He wanted caste certificate for admission of his son in a school. ‘

The conversation went like this:

Amit Kumr: I want a caste certificate made.

Call centre: Does anyone in your family possess a caste certificate

Amit Kumar: No. But my father has ration card.

Call Centre: Okay. You will have to furnish address proof, Aadhaar Card and copy of your father’s ration card with evidence of your relationship with him.

Amit Kumar: We will provide all this. When will your executive come to my place?

Call centre: It won’t be possible before October

Amit Kumar: But I have to get my son admitted to school. Why so long?

Call centre: We are receiving lots of call. I have been asked not to give any dates before October

Amit Kumar: Okay. I will call you later
