Box-office: ‘Veere…’ collects ₹36.52 crore in opening weekend; ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ disappoints

Mumbai: Veere Di Wedding had an extremely impressive run at the box-office in its opening weekend collecting a sizable ₹36.52 crore. The movie which opened in theatres across India last Friday collected a fantastic ₹10.70 crore on day one and followed it with ₹12.25 crore and ₹13.57 crore on Saturday and Sunday.

Calling the collections fantastic, eminent trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “The collections in the opening weekend have been very good. But the crucial test begins from today. We will have to wait and watch how it does this week. The movie has been helped by some good word of mouth. At the same time, there are also a section of audience who haven’t liked it much either. But as they say if the opening is good half the battle is won.”

Agreeing with Taran is another trade analyst Narendra Gupta who said, “The collections are fantastic. It has made its mark in the opening weekend. Monday will be the litmus test and one will have to wait and see if they can pass it or not. The movie has been liked by young audience while the conservative masses have rejected it. But overall, the collections have been very fantastic.”

Calling it a hit, Amod Mehra said, “The film has done extraordinarily well in multiplexes and cities. Had the single screen theatres supported it, the movie would have raked in more money. Yet it is still a hit.”

For the moment, Veere Di Wedding will be looking to build momentum till this Friday. Says Taran Adarsh, “Rajinikanth’s Kaala and Jurassic World which will release this week will have an impact. So Veere Di Wedding will have to cover up ground this week.”

Meanwhile Harshvardhan Kapoor starrer Bhavesh Joshi had a disastrous opening with collections being way below par. “The collections have been poor,” said Taran Adarsh while Amod Mehra said, “It is a disaster. The movie will be out of cinema screens this week.”
