Mumbai: Yash Raj Film’s Sui Dhaaga collected an impressive Rs 36.60 crore in the opening weekend. The movie opened at an above average level earning Rs 8.30 crore on Friday and saw the collections rising to an impressive 12.25 cr and 16.05 on Sunday taking the total tally to 36.60 cr.
Film trade analyst Amod Mehra said, “While Sui Dhaaga had an average opening on Day 1, the figures grew on Day 2; and the collections of Day 3 were almost double the collection of Day 1. What has worked for the movie is its sincerity which has struck a chord with the audience. With Gandhi Jayanti coming, the movie will make a killing tomorrow (October 2).”
Another trade analyst, Narendra Gupta says, “Sui Dhaaga is already in profit as it has recovered money from its digital and satellite rights. The movie has registered good collections, although by Varun’s standards it is too low. However, I see it crossing a lifetime of 75 cr.”
Vishal Bhardwaj’s Pataakha which released alongside Sui Dhaaga, flopped at the box-office.
Narendra Gupta exlains, “The movie had a disastrous opening gathering around just Ra 80 lakh on Day 1. Its opening weekend was around Rs 3.25 crore. I don’t see it making much money this week. The movie wasn’t well promoted. The total budget of the movie was Rs 20 cr which was too high for a non star-cast film.”
