Box-office: ‘Race 3’ crosses Rs 100 crores in opening weekend

Mumbai: Salman Khan’s Race 3 raced with furious pace at the box-office to collect Rs 100 crores plus in its opening weekend. The movie which released last Friday collected Rs 29.17 cr on day one and followed it up with a crazy Rs 38.14 and Rs 39.16 cr on Saturday and Sunday respectively gathering a handsome Rs 106.47 cr from all Indian territories.

Commenting on the box-office performance, eminent film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “Race 3 has done fabulous business and there are three major reasons for it. One is brand Salman Khan. Second being Race the franchise and third being Eid. All these three factors are responsible in giving Race 3 a big boost at the box-office.”

Another film trade analyst Amod Mehra opined that crossing Rs 100 crores was a foregone conclusion. “One will have to wait and see if it will do 200 or 300. That is the real test. It looks a bit difficult as its collections will take a hit this week and next.”

For Taran, the success of Race 3 will depend on word of mouth. “This week is crucial because the initial euphoria has died down and the performance of Race 3 will now depend on word of mouth. It will only get a free run for two weeks because on June 29 Raju Hirani’s much-hyped film Sanju will hit the silver screens and audience and screens will be divided.”

For the moment, one will have to wait and see if Sanju will enter the 200 crore and later on the 300 crore club.
