BJP MLA in MP browbeats cops, says you don’t know Hindu tradition

Vidisha: A video has come to the fore in which Sironj assembly constituency BJP MLA Umakant Sharma is seen browbeating the police. Umakant is the brother of BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh minister Laxmikant Sharma who is also an accused in the Vyapam scam. Sironj constituency falls under Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district.

The incident took place in Sironj on Wednesday night before Holika dahan. In Sironj there is a tradition to set the Holika on fire by firing a shot with gun. When this tradition was being followed, the policemen present on the spot tried to stop the MLA from firing citing Model Code of Conduct was in force.

This infuriated the MLA and he told the cops that they did not even know the Hindu tradition. Finally the bonfire was lit by firing with a gun.

Case registered, report sent to EC

The Vidisha district administration has registered a case against former minister Laxmikant Sharma, MLA Umakant Sharma and Hindu Utsav Samiti president Om Soni for violation of Model Code of Conduct. Collector KV Singh has sent the report to Election Commission.
