New Delhi: The BJP has released its first list of 184 candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again contest election from Varanasi, while party chief Amit Shah will contest from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
This will be Shah’s first Lok Sabha election. The BJP has announced names of 184 candidates for the general elections. The list was announced by Union health minister JP Nadda.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh will contest from Lucknow with Nitin Gadkari contesting from Nagpur.
Shah’s candidature from Gandhinagar is important because this seat is currently held by party veteran Lal Krishna Advani. He has been representing Gandhinagar in the Lok Sabha since 1998.
Hema Malini will contest from Mathura, Smriti Irani from Amethi, VK Singh will from Ghaziabad and Sakshi Maharaj from Unnao. The BJP first list covered 23 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand among others.
Smriti will take on Rahul
Smriti Irani will once again take on Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, while VK Singh has been fielded again from Ghaziabad seat.
In its list, the BJP has announced 14 of 15 sitting MPs in Karnataka. Only one sitting MP – Karadi Sanganna from Koppal – has not been named.
All three Union ministers from Karnataka – Ananth Kumar Hegde (Uttara Kannada), Ramesh Jigjinagi (Bijapur) and DV Sadananda Gowda (Bengaluru North) will be contesting from their current seats.
In UP, six sitting MPs have not been given tickets. Among them are Union minister Krishna Raj, Babulal Chaudhary, Anju Bala, Ram Shankar Katheria, Anshul Verma, and Satya Pal Singh.
The BJP has renominated Kiren Rijiju, DV Sadananda Gowda, VK Singh, Mahesh Sharma and Babul Supriyo. Tejaswini, Ananth Kumar’s wife, who was expected to be named as candidate from Bengaluru south, has been excluded.
