Begusarai, Bihar: An unidentified body is lying in the open at the railway station for the past two days. The body has been kept under a foot over bridge of the railway station by the GRP officials, ostensibly to facilitate its identification.
Unable to bear the stench emanating from the rotting body, some passengers could be seen vomiting on the platform.
The body is of an elderly woman, who was run over by a train on the Barauni-Katihar section on Monday. The GRP officials kept the body on the platform after postmortem.
The GRP police station in-charge said that they had no option as there was no mortuary at the railway station. He said that the GRP had written several letters to railway authorities to built a mortuary on the station premises or to at least provide an air-conditioned box for unclaimed bodies but nothing had been done.
Rules say that an unidentified body has to be preserved for three days for identification but it has to kept either at mortuary or in a box.
