Bihar: Man ties minor to tree, beats him up for stealing mobile phone

Patna: A computer parts shop owner in Langartoli, Bihar, on Saturday, tied a minor to a tree and beat him up with sticks for allegedly stealing his mobile phone.

In fact, after beating up the child, Atul took the minor, a resident of Jahrkhand, to a neighbour’s terrace and kept him hostage there by tying his hands and feet.

After a video of the incident went viral, town DSP Suresh Kumar sent orders to Kadamkuan police station officer Ajay Kumar, who arrived on the spot and arrested Atul. The police found the child on the roof of a house belonging to a Mahavir Prasad who lives in Langartoli.

Locals said that Atul used to do printing work for many police stations and he used to behave like a goon in the neighbourhood. This was the reason why no one interfered when he was beating up the child.

The DSP said that whether the child stole the mobile phone or not is to be investigated. No phone was found on his person.

The child is currently in police custody. The child told the police that out of fear of being beaten up, he confessed to having stolen the mobile phone. He said that he lived at Patna Junction and begged for food there. He said that he was sitting in a temple when Atul picked him up and began beating him. The local police said that there was another boy with the minor.

Meanwhile, Atul was sent to jail for the disdemeanour on Monday.
