‘ATS chief Hemant Karkare died because I had cursed him’: Sadhvi Pragya Thakur

Bhopal: Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case and the BJP candidate against Congress’s Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal, stoked a controversy when she said that then Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Mumbai chief Hemant Karkare died because she had cursed him.

“I called Hemant Karkare and asked him to let me go if there is no evidence (against me). He (Karkare) said that he will bring evidence but will not leave me. I told him — You will be ruined,” she said.

Karkare was killed along with two other senior police officers while fighting terrorists during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai in November 2008.

Thakur also alleged that Karkare only wanted to declare her as a terrorist.

She further alleged that Karkare had asked her if he should go to God to get proof to convict her.

She added that replying to him, she had said that if he feels that it is necessary then he should go.

After that Karkare passed away during an operation against terrorists in the Mumbai attack, she said. The newly joined BJP leader accused Karkare of abusing her using very foul words.
