London: The High Commission of India in London hosted the Indian Test team on Tuesday with captain Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma also in attendance at the gathering. It is however, yet unclear as to how Anushka is still travelling with Kohli and the team as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had barred the wives and girlfriends of the Indian cricket team players from accompanying their respective partners until the end of the third Test against England.
Sharma’s presence helping Kohli?
According to reports, the BCCI has also decided that WAGs of India’s cricket stars will join their partners only for 14 days after the first two weeks of a 45-day tour in future. Anushka’s presence however, seems to be helping Kohli in the Test series as he smashed his maiden hundred in England even though it came in a lost cause in the first Test at Edgbaston last week.
On Tuesday, the couple posed for a picture together outside the High Commission of India in London along with the Indian team and its support staff. The picture which was later uploaded by the BCCI on its social media accounts which was slammed by people.
Twitterati flay ‘irresponsible’ move
“Vice captain is in last row and First Lady of Indian cricket is in front row. These people giving lecture online few days back,” wrote one miffed user. “Is captain wife more important than vice captain? Where are other players wife’s? Don’t divide team for the sake of captain or Bollywood please,” wrote another.
‘Unethical’, Board blasted
Calling it “unprofessional” and “unethical,” several Twitter users criticised the richest board in the world for ‘allowing’ a partner in what was supposed to be a formal meet and greet of Team India.
