Pendra (Bilaspur): A case has been registered against Amit Jogi, former MLA of Marwahi and son of former chief minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi, under Section 420 IPC at Gorela police station in Pendra (Bilaspur). The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sameera Paikra, BJP candidate from Marwahi constituency in 2013. According to the complaint, Jogi had incorrectly stated his birth place in the affidavit.
High Court had earlier dismissed the plea
After losing the elections, Sameera Paikra filed a petition in the high court challenging Amit Jogi’s caste and place of birth. The high court dismissed the petition on the ground that Chhattisgarh assembly session had already ended.
Sameera Paikra approached Gorela police station on February 3 and lodged a complaint that in the affidavit submitted by Amit Jogi during the elections, he had stated his birthplace as village Sarbahra, Gorela, and date of birth as 1978, while he was born in 1977 in Douglas, Texas, in USA.
SP Abhishek Meena said that after investigation, a case had been registered against Amit Jogi for cheating and submitting false affidavit.
FIR is ridiculous: Jogi
Amit Jogi said that it is ridiculous to register an FIR as the election petition has already been rejected. It is a joint conspiracy of the BJP and the Congress. “I have full confidence in the judiciary. In the past, many cases were lodged against me and my family, but the court has always given me relief,” he said.
