America/ Michigan man wins Rs 565 crore jackpot during divorce case, court says – pay half the amount to ex-wife

Washinton: Richard Dick Zelasko, who lives in Michigan, America, was overjoyed when he won Mega Million lottery and bagged a prize of Rs 565 crores ($ 80 million). But now the court has ordered that half of the amount be given to his ex-wife amid their divorce.

Richard was overjoyed to learn that he won the $80 million jackpot back in 2013 — that is until a judge told him that half of his winnings would be going to his soon-to-be ex-wife Mary Beth Zelasko.

Dick and Mary Beth were married in 2004 and have three children. They were separated for two years at the time he won the Mega Million in 2013. But a Michigan appeals court ruled that Richard must pay his ex-wife half the winnings, as their divorce was not yet final.

Dick’s attorney Scott G. Bassett, however, argued in court that “Rich was lucky, but it was his luck, not Mary’s, that produced the lottery proceeds.”
