Three movies – Akshay Kumar’s Mangalyaan, John Abraham’s Batla House and Rajkummar Rao’s Made in China too – are all set to release on August 15, 2019.
Incidentally, this year too, John’s Satyameva Jayate and Akshay’s Gold released on Independence Day. Although, Gold did average business, Satyameva Jayate earned decent money at the box office as it was not a big budget film. Bhushan Kumar, who co-produced Satyameva Jayate, is also co-producing Batla House. Bhushan and Akshay have reportedly had a fallout after the actor walked out of Gulshan Kumar’s biopic Mogul over creative differences with writer-director Subhash Kapoor.
Earlier, Akshay had agreed to let his filmmaker friend Karan Johar release his film Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, on August 15 but after the filmmaker announced that the film will release on Christmas next year, Akshay Kumar and R. Balki immediately declared that their film Mangalyaan will release on Independence Day.
“Akshay has always preferred to release his films on Independence Day. In fact, he was keen to push his film Kesari to August since it belongs to patriotic genre but Karan, who is producing both Kesari and Brahmastra, was not really interested in changing the dates,” said a source.
