New Delhi: The nation mourned the loss of a great leader after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away at a Delhi hospital on Thursday. He was cremated with full state honour on Friday.
Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shared photos of the time she met the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee alongside late actor Sridevi in 2002, on Instagram on Sunday.
Along with the photos, Aishwarya posted a touching tribute that read: “Respect. Rest In Peace.”
Aishwarya’s post also gives a glimpse into her meeting with the late Prime Minister and BJP leader. Vajpayee left an indelible mark on several personalities from the world of Indian cinema, including Aishwarya’s father-in-law, actor Amitabh Bachchan, who mourned his death with a Twitter tribute on Thursday.
Actors Rajinikanth, Priyanka Chopra, Vivek Oberoi and Dhanush also reacted to the sad news with an outpouring of tributes on social media.
“I’m saddened to hear the demise of a great statesman Shri.Vajpayee ji. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Rajinikanth.
“The nation will always remember (his visionary ideas and contributions),” wrote Priyanka.
Others who wrote fondly about Vajpayee include the iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, actors Boman Irani and Randeep Hooda, who shared a poem on Twitter. They praised Vajpayee and the admiration he received even from his critics and his skills as an orator and poet.
