Mumbai: Aamir Khan is in China to promote his film Thugs of Hindostan, which is set to release on December 28. This mega budget multi-starrer released in India during Diwali last month but could not do well at the box office after receiving average reviews. The film was to release in China next year but the makers were keen to release it this year and somehow managed to get the release date.
Now Aamir, who has already apologised to the audience here, has taken upon himself to promote the film in China, where he has got huge fan base.
“Aamir is known not to go out of his way to promote the film. He has been following this policy for his past few films and it has worked well. However, in case of TOH, it has not worked and the film could not collect good money at the box office. So now in China, he will be travelling to different cities where his past films have worked and promote this film. He was already seen attending a few events and is expected to attend a few more in the next couple of days,” says a source.
Aamir is the only actor from the cast who is traveling in China for promotions, though the film also stars Katrina Kaif, Amitabh Bachchan and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
Aamir’s past few films such as Dangal, PK and 3 Idiots have done exceptionally well at China’s box office. So it was said that the makers were already aiming to cater to Chinese audience with TOH.
Meanwhile, Aamir was seen with Johnny Depp and Jackie Chan at Hainan Film Festival earlier this week, and was to visit a college but the event was cancelled at the last moment due to miscommunication between college authorities and organisers.
