’83’ to recreate Kapil Dev’s iconic 175, cricket legend to be present on shoot day

Kapil Dev’s iconic innings against Zimbabwe that saw him score 175 runs to lift the Indian team to victory will be recreated in Kabir Khan’s ’83 biopic giving audiences world wide a first time glimpse into Kapil Dev’s hurricane knock. The match was not video recorded and nor was there any radio commentary available on the same as BBC was on strike on the day of the match. To help recreate the same, Kapil along with his other team members will be present on the day of the shoot.

“While there is video footage available for all the other matches, the one against Zimbabwe remains alive only in the memories of the players. Kabir has therefore sought the help of all former players, including Kapil Dev, to help him direct the same. Kabir knows this is the first time one will ever get to see a video representation of the match and wants to get every nuance of the match right, while shooting it in the stadium. Kapil will personally see through Ranveer Singh’s role in the scene to make sure he captures the right cricketing nuances. Other players will share the tense dressing room atmosphere when India were 5 down for 17 runs. Ranveer will also be using the famous mongoose bat that Kapil used while batting in the match,” said a source.

Meanwhile, apart from Ranveer, the other starcast of the film include Chirag Patil, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Vijay Verma, Tahir Raj Bhasin and Ammy Virk.

The film is scheduled to be released on April 10, 2020.
