The crash took place on Muscat-to-Dubai route at 6 pm on Thursday, according to Mwasalat, a government-owned bus company in Oman
“However, this number may go up as eight bodies are still not identified. Four Indians were discharged after first aid and three are receiving treatment in Rashid hospital,” the Indian consulate in Dubai tweeted.
Police in Dubai announced the death toll in tweets early on Friday.
They said the bus smashed into a sign on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. They did not elaborate on what caused the bus driver to hit the sign, though police warn that “sometimes a minor error or negligence” can be fatal.
Police said the dead included different nationalities, without elaborating.
The bus company has said it would suspend the service for the immediate future.
