8-floor-high, largest-ever wave, recorded in New Zealand

  • Wellington: Scientists have recorded what is believed to be the “largest wave ever” in the southern hemisphere, a 78 foot monster wave which is the height of an eight-floor building. -Agencies

 

  • The wave was recorded during a ferocious storm in the wild Southern Ocean near Campbell Island, 700 km south of New Zealand, research body MetOcean Solutions was quoted as saying.

 

  • The largest wave ever noted was an earthquake-generated tsunami at Alaska’s Lituya Bay in 1958.
