New Delhi: At least two militants were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Budgam, in central Kashmir, police said on Wednesday. This is the third encounter in three days.
Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the militants at the site of encounter. The identities and affiliations of the terrorists killed are yet to be known.
A cordon and search operation was launched late on Tuesday night by the state police and the Indian Army in the area based when they received information about the presence of militants in Gopalpora area of Chadoora in Budgam.
Security forces were fired upon by the militants and they retaliated leading to a gunfight, said the police.
In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies have been retrieved from the site of encounter. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation in the matter.
Meanwhile, Army Jawan Baljeet Singh lost his life in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama earlier on Tuesday. People also took to stone pelting the security forces in Pulwama, during an ongoing encounter.
