Lucknow: In the last 24 hours, 17 people died in separate rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh and many others were injured. At Hardoi, three people were killed and 11 injured. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to cover entire Uttar Pradesh by Wednesday.
Rain all day
On Sunday, showers lashed different parts of the state. The same sequence continued on Monday. In many areas, lightning struck and the maximum casualties took place when people were lightning struck them.
Two deaths each occurred in Shahjahanpur, Amethi, Sitapur, Ghazipur, Jalon and Balrampur and one person each died in Fatehpur, Badaun and Gonda. Two people, including former village chief in Balrampur, died after they were swept away in the flood waters. During this 11 people were injured when lightning struck them. Besides 10 animals also died. Seven houses collapsed in Balrampur.
