Lucknow: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia, the two general secretaries in charge of UP, will finally arrive in Lucknow on Monday morning for their four-day state visit. Meetings have been slotted from 10 am till close to midnight on three days starting Tuesday, an hour devoted to deliberate on each Lok Sabha seat and meetings with 20 Congress workers from each seat. This apart, there will also be a 15-km roadshow through Lucknow, which will avoid the Vidhan Sabha route on Monday.
The duo will arrive with Congress president Rahul Gandhi at the Lucknow airport around 11 am on Monday from where the 15-km road show will start which will end at the iconic Nehru Bhawan in Lucknow, the office of the UP Congress Committee. This will be Priyanka’s first visit to this office which was inaugurated by the late prime minister Indira Gandhi. Thousands of Congress workers have descended on Lucknow from across the state, nearly three dozen points have been identified for the cavalcade to be welcomed along the road-show route and hundreds of hoardings have sprung up in Lucknow. On a special request from the administration, the roadshow will avoid passing the Vidhan Sabha, as the assembly is in session.
The three Congress leaders will garland the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Sardar Patel at the city’s main Hazratganj intersection and later the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at the Congress office. Rahul Gandhi will return to Delhi on Monday evening. Priyanka and Scindia will separately start meeting workers from each seat from 9.30 am on Tuesday morning.
An hour’s deliberation has been allotted to each seat which is expected to go on till almost midnight. While 42 Lok Sabha seats in East UP are under Priyanka’s charge, 38 West UP seats are under Scindia’s charge. On Tuesday, Priyanka is set to start her meetings with seats like Mohanlalganj, Unnao, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Phulpur and end the day at 11:30 pm with a meeting on the Lucknow seat.
On the eve of her first official visit to Lucknow, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday issued an audio statement, inviting the people of the state, especially the youth, women and poor, to join in the effort for a new and inclusive politics in the state.
She also took a a dig at the BJP state governments of UP and Uttrakhand over the hooch tragedy by wondering how the illicit liquor industry could have worked at all without their patronage. ” I am reaching Lucknow tomorrow to meet you all. I hope we all will join hands to start a new politics, where all will be stakeholders — the youth, women and the downtrodden,” she said. —(OPB).
