Bhilai: Houses allotted to civic body staff illegally converted into bungalows

Bhilai (Durg): Houses allotted to the civic body staff in Bhilai (in Durg district) have been illegally converted into bungalows without permission. The houses with two bedrooms and kitchen were allotted to them by the corporation authorities.

In 1985, the Recordo Company undertook construction of roads in the city. The company had allotted houses to its workers on Nazool land. Later the corporation allotted these houses to its staff. The corporation employees have been living in these houses since then.

There can be no compromise as this is govt land’

The land on which the houses exist is worth crores. The employees converted them into bungalows without building permission or other statutory permissions. Building permission officer TK Dev said there can be no compromise in this matter as this is the government land.

On Thursday evening a team of Durg Municipal Corporation reached Shikshak Nagar upon receiving information about the illegally built bungalows. Notices were issued to the occupiers to vacate the bungalows within 24 hours.

Size of allotted shops increased illegally

Shops were allotted by Durg Municipal Corporation in Indira Market but many of the allotees have illegally changed the structure and increased the size of the allotted shops by pulling down the walls in the middle of the shops. Corporation officials have issued notices to 22 allottees and asked them to give their reply in three days.

Durg mayor Chandrika Chandrakar said action would be taken after investigation. Lokeshwar Sahu, commissioner, Durg Municipal Corporation, said details of the case were being collected and would be forwarded to MiC, civic body’s general council and state government – which, inturn, will decide about the action to be taken in this matter.
