Two dead, 33 injured in stampede in Chennai, ahead of Karunanidhi’s funeral

A scuffle broke out after people reportedly broke cordon leading to lathi charge by the police.

New Delhi: Earlier on Wednesday, the Madras High Court said that M Karunanidhi can be buried at Chennai’s Marina Beach.

A DMK lawyer said, “The DMK’s plea for the burial of Kalaignar’s body near Anna memorial has been accepted by the Madras High Court. The court further directed Tamil Nadu government to ensure and establish a memorial for Kalaignar”

Preparations have begun for the funeral processions at 4pm. There are bagpipes players and huge posters of Karunanidhi.

A scuffle broke out after people reportedly broke cordon leading to lathi charge by the police. This eventually resulted in a stampede. While two died, 33 more were injured in the scuffle and stampede outside Chennai’s Rajaji hallas per reports by ANI.
