Omung Kumar is gearing up for his next film which is based on an ancient Manipuri sport Yubi Lakpi.
The game which is similar to rugby is played with coconut covered in oil. Sources in the know suggest that Sidharth Malhotra is in the running to play the lead in the film.
“Omung has been penning on this subject since long and he is now ready to shoot it. Sidharth is the strongest contender to play the lead. He is an obvious choice. Not only is Sidharth a popular actor but he has also played professional rugby. He understands the game very well and is a natural fit for the role. The idea has been bounced off to Sidharth and he has liked it as well. Once they decide the remuneration, he will sign the dotted lines,” a source said.
When we asked Sidharth if he is a part of the film, the actor said, “I am not saying anything about it. I have read somewhere that Omung is making a film on Yubi Lakpi.”
Speaking about the game, Sidharth said, “It is an ancient game that has its origins in Manipur. It has great history attached to it.”
